We are excited to be included with a few of our fellow sailors in an article about family sailing in New York City.

Family sailing lessons have a different vibe than group lessons with strangers. For starters, children are better students, said Miles Pincus, an owner of Atlantic Yachting, which offers, among other programs, a three-hour Introduction to Sailing for curious families.

It's Officially Summer

Well not quite summer, but we've had such amazing weather all week! We're off to an amazing season so far. We've had so many great sails its hard to keep track of them all. So far we've already had four people get engaged on our boats in May (we maintain our perfect record) and celebrated birthdays, anniversaries, and even some skipped days of work. We've still got a few openings left for Memorial Day weekend charters, so now is the time to grab them.

Intersection

Towards the end of last season we helped Intersection Magazine put together a nautical inspired fashion shoot. We took two boats out on the Hudson and shot on both of them with a stunning Manhattan backdrop. We finally got our hands on the published photos and uploaded them to our gallery. Have a look.

Kids Sailing Around the World

Jessica Watson, a 16-year-old Australian, began her attempt at solo circumnavigation on Sunday when she left Sydney in her yacht. She plans on spending the next eight months at sea sailing some 28,000 miles around the world on her 10-meter boat, hoping to become the youngest person to circumnavigate the globe alone. Her departure was not without controversy, however: the government in her home state of Queensland, as well as some of Australia’s most experienced sailors, have urged her not to try. Watson’s attempt comes just a few months after 13-year-old Laura Dekker of Holland was ordered into state care to scuttle her own plans to break the record; the current record-holder is 17-year-old Mike Perham, who completed his circumnavigation in August.

Registration for our 2010 Summer Sailing Program for Kids has begun.

Our two week summer sailing program combines the best sailing instruction available in the region with summer fun like no other.
