Alex has spent most of his life on the water, as both a sailor and a professional kayaker. He has been sailing for more than 20 years and is enthusiastic about sharing his love of the water. When he's not sailing, which is rare, he's a practicing architect, educator, and traveller. He can tell you the history of every building in the Manhattan skyline.

In addition to his sailing credentials, Alex has a Masters Degree in Architecture from Columbia University and has taught architecture at Columbia, University of Pennsylvania, and the University of Kentucky,.

Tonia spent the first seven years of her life living aboard a 36 foot sloop built by her parents. The ocean has been calling her back ever since. A returned Nepal Peace Corps volunteer, she most recently completed a two year circumnavigation working as the production manager for an online educational magazine aboard a 43 foot Swan ketch.

Now, as a licensed captain with 25,000 blue water miles she enjoys sharing her love of sailing on the exciting waters of New York City. When not sailing Tonia teaches English to recent immigrants in the Bronx, designs online educational games and works in her art studio.

Brooks Atwood has been sailing since before he was born. He grew up making boats and other architectural curiosities out of wood and other lightweight materials. He was trained by salty dogs at the Chesapeake Bay Yacht Racing Association where he was champion two years running. He raced with his dad on one designs in Virginia, tested his nerves on the Mackinaw Island tumultuous 4 day race in Lake Michigan and conquered the Sag Harbor-NYC quest with our favorite Boat Basin local Bruno. Brooks has taught sailing to the most challenged and has skippered many a boat, many a late night. Brooks can smell the wind and was voted most entertaining captain of 2008.

Jonathan is one of the new guys on our crew. Over the last ten years he has taught sailing in Rhode Island, the U.S. Virgin Islands and his home state of Florida.

Jonathan learned to sail in a small lake at a Summer program when he was nine years-old. He fell in love with the sport, and ten years later he was running the program.

Off the water, Jonathan is an actor and singer, and a recent graduate of the Brown University/Trinity Rep. Acting Conservatory.
